5 New Games From the Mystery Gamedev Community in 2024
Support the developers in our community and enjoy some fun mystery games!
Happy Mystery Monday!
With the year coming to an end, I wanted to showcase a collection of games created by the members of our community and released this year.
For full disclosure, I’ve gotten to know most of these developers personally in one way or another during this past year, so I might be a little biased — but I’m truly proud of these developers for releasing some incredible games, and I wish them all the best going forward.
Maybe you’ve seen or heard about these games before, but if you haven’t gotten around to playing them just yet, then now is the perfect time to support these developers and have some fun — maybe even buy a gift copy for friends or family for the holiday season!
So without further ado, here are 5 mystery games released in 2024 you should definitely play:
Paper Perjury
It all started with a simple robbery. When that thread was pulled, a tapestry of mysteries was revealed. Solve cases and outsmart criminals in a detective story full of lies, confessions, and maybe even a murder or two.
GENBA no Kizuna
A Mesozoic murder mystery, 4 suspects, 1 truth. Investigate, interrogate and present evidence as you set out to unravel the case with your team. Will you be able to accurately determine who took the victim's life? Or will your deductions lead you to arrest someone for a crime they did not commit...?
The Specter’s Desire
This year's Desire Hierarchy has begun. The stakes are now deadly. Hop into The Specter's Desire, a Visual Novel in which you play against the city's top talents to save your parents. Includes puzzling gameplay that has you tearing down arguments, hatching schemes, and revealing the truth!
Little Locked Rooms
Grab your magnifying glass and peek inside a series of tiny dioramas filled with crimes and carefully crafted mysteries! Think outside the box and solve them all in this new brand of detective game!
Anamnesia - part 1: am i my body?
Sci-Fi Mystery Visual Novel. Nine people are trapped in an underground research facility, forced to play a game of life and death. Check your log to find the truth that connects those apparent strangers - if you even want to, that is.
Some motivational words…
In addition to spreading awareness of mystery games, my goals with Mystery Gamedev include the creation of more games just like these, helping developers make better games in faster, easier, and more fun ways.
Rather than go it alone, we provide resources to a community of people going through the same problems and working together to find solutions.
Despite the fact that 3 out of 5 of the above games were created by first-time developers, all of them have professional levels of detail and polish.
If you’re thinking about making your own game someday, view these games as inspiration, to see what is possible when you set your mind to a goal.
And speaking of that — don’t forget about all of the games released during our Mystery Game Jam! Go ahead and give those a spin if you haven’t yet, too.
I hope that in 2025, everyone will continue making great progress on their games, and I look forward to seeing all the current demos having successful launches!
