5 New Mystery Games and Demos to Play in August 2024
And a quick progress report on the website.
Happy Mystery Monday!
Website Progress Update
First, a quick note: I’ve been working diligently to update the Mystery Gamedev website with all the features needed to make it the most comprehensive database of mystery games anywhere in the world.
We’re a bit far away from that at the moment, but that is, at least, the goal.
I’m hesitant to push any of those updates in an incomplete state — there are a lot of interconnected parts and a lot could go wrong — so you’ll just need to hang on a bit longer. Progress is definitely being made, but it just takes time. Your patience is greatly appreciated!
That said, three features have been pushed to the site:
The footer now contains a link to our official Spotify podcast.
There is now a page that lists our podcast interviews.
We have an events calendar for important dates.
Hopefully I’ll have more to report in the next few weeks.
The biggest thing is setting up a system where users can register accounts, add new games to the database, and update each page with accurate information. If you’re subscribed to this newsletter, you’ll be the first to know when this system goes live!
5 New Mystery Games and Demos
Now, without further ado….
If you’re looking for a fun way to pass the time while waiting for me to update the website, you should consider playing these recently released mystery games and demos:
1. The Crimson Diamond
Follow amateur geologist and reluctant detective Nancy Maple to the ghost town of Crimson, Ontario to investigate the discovery of a massive diamond in this retro-inspired, EGA text parser mystery adventure!
2. Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse
The last game in the episodic Sam & Max trilogy, beautifully remastered! As the intergalactic villains who seek the Devil’s Toybox close in and Max’s psychic abilities grow beyond his control, the Freelance Police will come up against their most frightening adversary yet: the power of Max’s mind.
3. Let Me Out
Play as Alvin, a 10-year-old indigo child, in search of his mother and escape Mata Koetjhing, an ancient Javanese village. Get help from your little sister’s spirit, your pet spider and brew potions to exorcize mysterious creatures.
4. Detective Instinct: Farewell, My Beloved Demo
A woman vanishes without a trace on a cross-country train. The catch? Nobody on board remembers her ever existing in the first place - nobody, except for you. Uncover the story in this detective ADV/visual novel!
5. Celestial Return Demo
Celestial Return is a narrative driven Sci-Fi Noir RPG where you roll as 3 lost souls scheming the Heist of the Millennia. Roll the dice, mix and match your skills, make tough choices, and steal the "Titan Core" to rule a cyborg army!
…And that’s all for now!
Let us know what you think of these games in the comments or in our Discord server!
