7 Mystery Game Demos From Steam Next Fest October 2024
Another roundup of mystery game demos from Steam Next Fest!
Happy Mystery Monday!
This week is Steam Next Fest, and with over 60 demos tagged “Detective”, over 70 tagged “Investigation”, and nearly 350 games simply tagged “Mystery”, my job has gotten a lot more difficult trying to sort out which ones to share with you in today’s post!
There were lots of other games I wanted to share here, but we just don’t have the space!
So, I encourage you to open up Steam this week and take a look for yourself.
But if you can’t, here’s a quick roundup of 7 demos that caught my attention:
1. The Rise of the Golden Idol
The Award-winning detective saga returns. Uncover the truth behind 20 strange cases of crime, death and depravity in the 1970s. The world has changed dramatically - the sins of humanity have not.
2. Luminous Threads: A Visual Novel
You are Juno, a teenage girl getting evidence to clear her brother's name. Choose who helps you solve the mystery. With multiple endings, some scenes are flashbacks to the past. Your actions there may even change who committed the crime, with what, and where!
3. Mirage Noir
Play as a detective, solve cases, and try to catch an elusive serial killer in this mystery visual novel focused on found family.
4. Inspector Waffles Early Days
A top-down detective adventure with point-and-click mechanics, inspired by classic Game Boy games. Follow Waffles in his first days as an inspector who wants to prove to everyone that he is more than just a rookie. But beware… Your future worst enemy is hiding in the shadows.
5. Murder at the Birch Tree Theater
Uncover high drama in this whodunnit set in a small-town community theater. Gather clues by investigating the sets, casts and backstage crews of 10 theatrical productions, and piece together the story of each deadly crime.
6. The Precinct
Averno City, 1983. Gangs rule the streets and your father lies restless in his grave. Clean up the city, uncover the truth, and embark on thrilling vehicle chases through destructible environments in this neon-noir action sandbox police game.
7. Dinocop
In a world where dinosaurs and humans live side by side, you're the one and only Dinocop. And you got a meaty case to crack. In this mystery game set in a day cycle, uncover secrets scattered through time.
Anyway, that’s all for today — this took me a bit longer than I expected since I wanted to at least try out the demos myself, and there really are a lot of games this time!
Every time I do one of these posts, it fills me with inspiration seeing so many different kinds of mystery games, and it’s a motivational reminder of the genre’s potential.
Let us know in the comments which demos from Next Fest are your favorite!
