Efficient Mystery Design with Matthew Myers | MGD Podcast #6

Mystery Gamedev Podcast #6

Today's guest is Matthew Myers, the developer of the mystery game series Murder Is Game Over. There are currently 4 released games in the series, and a 5th game called Murder Is Game Over: Murder Otaku is set to be released on October 1st.

Disclaimer: I purchased an alpha version of the game and became one of its testers. I genuinely enjoyed the game, and in the episode I share my honest thoughts about it.

My opinion: Murder Is Game Over: Murder Otaku is a fair and solvable mystery game that lives up to the golden-age standard that inspired it. Combined with its unique premise in a modern setting and RPG-style gameplay mechanics, it's an experience well worth the money spent.

Topics covered in today’s episode include:

  • The inspirations behind Murder Is Game Over

  • When you should use RPG Maker for your mystery game

  • How to write relatable characters and dialogue

  • How to consistently release a mystery game series

  • How mentorship helps you improve your skills

  • How to efficiently structure your mystery game

  • …And more!
