New Releases
Where Winter Crows Go is a free psychological-horror mystery/romance visual novel by Pri Karin. It released on November 14th and already has over 600 positive reviews!
Needing a break from their usual routine, Aspen decides to take a one-week holiday trip to Frostpeak, a town famous for its ski resorts.
Unfortunately, on the way there, their car breaks down and they have no choice but to walk to the nearest place available... an isolated log cabin in the middle of the woods.
The cabin turns out to be the home of an environmental researcher who's studying partial migration among other things.
Will Aspen stay with him or risk finding another place in the freezing weather?
Upcoming Mystery Games
In last week’s newsletter we mentioned The Case of the Golden Idol as an excellent example of a mystery game with unique gameplay mechanics.
Just days ago, a sequel titled The Rise of the Golden Idol was announced on Steam!
The Rise of the Golden Idol follows a tenacious relic hunter on a quest to unearth the powerful artifact that - if the legend is true - can reshape the world.
As the observer, you must investigate 15 strange cases of crime, death and depravity. Like before with The Case of the Golden Idol, you are free to investigate however you wish and build your own theory.
You must make sense of a grand mystery that unravels across an age of hallucinogens, fax machines, parapsychology and TV guides.
Enlightenment seekers, convicts, chat show hosts and corporate middle management will all have a role to play in the wider mysteries that unfold. Like always, many of these subjects will have their own motives. Some will be carrying more than agendas.
Plans For 2024
Since the year is coming to a close, I wanted to shed some light on my plans for 2024.
The Mystery Gamedev website will receive a massive overhaul.
Similar to other video game database websites, you’ll be able to search for new and upcoming mystery games via the website.
The site will be specifically tailored to the unique subgenres of mystery games.
I’d also like to simplify — ideally automate — the verification process for the game developers in our Discord server.
We’re going to start rolling out a wide variety of tools and resources to help game developers, — veterans and newcomers alike — with the creation of mystery games.
These resources will range from snippets of code to educational videos.
I have a huge list of items, so it will take a while, but I’m excited to get to work!
And last but certainly not least, we’ll be creating a lot of content for fans of mystery games to enjoy.
Our mission is not only helping developers create mystery games, but sharing these games with the people who want to play them.
Please look forward to it!
