This past month was big for mystery games, even outside of our Mystery Game Jam.
Let’s take a look at the top mystery game releases for the month of May, 2025:
The Precinct
Averno City, 1983. Gangs rule the streets and your father lies restless in his grave. Clean up the city, uncover the truth, and embark on thrilling vehicle chases through destructible environments in this neon-noir action sandbox police game.
I played through the demo in October 2024’s Steam Next Fest and remember having an absolute blast. You play as a rookie police officer just doing your job — issuing parking tickets, chasing down suspects, and getting into shootouts and car-chases.
It has all the chaos of Grand Theft Auto but played from the cop’s perspective. But there’s also a deeper mystery to be solved: the secret behind your father’s death.
The Precinct is currently part of three different police-themed bundles at a small discount in each. Check out its Steam page to find them.
Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping
You are the one and only Duck Detective, a depressed and recently divorced duck who must quack the case. Inspect evidence, make de-duck-tions, and solve this no-murder mystery!
Sequel to last year’s hit game Duck Detective: The Secret Salami sticks to the same formula that made the first game a success: a short, cozy mystery with colorful characters.
It’s also impressive that the second Duck Detective was released in less than a year after the first one. It shows that keeping your scope small and re-using the gameplay systems fans already love is a fast way to making a successful sequel.
If you haven’t played either Duck Detective game yet, both are on sale in a bundle.
Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer
In this point-and-click urban thriller, down-and-out private eye Kathy Rain will embark on her most dangerous case yet — the pursuit of the notorious serial killer known as the Soothsayer. Find clues, gather evidence, connect the dots, and confront the murderer before the hunter becomes the hunted…
Sequel to the popular mystery game Kathy Rain (2016) and Kathy Rain: Director’s Cut (2021). It features classic point-and-click gameplay alongside highly detailed pixel art.
The first Kathy Rain game has a free demo, and its sequel is currently in a bundle with The Roottrees are Dead if you haven’t picked up that one yet.
Best Served Cold
Can you mix a cocktail while eye-to-eye with a criminal? Find out in Best Served Cold, a murder mystery set in a bustling speakeasy where you serve customers, make friends and enemies, and solve crimes. At the Nightcap bar, prohibition is a killer… and so are some of your customers!
A new and unique game that takes place in a single location: a speakeasy. Brew the right drinks to get info out of characters and uncover the truth.
Nina Aquila: Legal Eagle, Chapter IV: "Sacred Feathers"
NINA AQUILA is back for her brightest, boldest, most magical adventure yet!
Sequel to the popular Nina Aquila: Legal Eagle Season One (2021) and the overall fourth installment of the Nina Aquila: Legal Eagle series.
This chapter blends mystery with magic in a cross-over with the magical girl genre. Alongside the classic courtroom-style gameplay inspired by Ace Attorney, Nina also transforms into a magical girl and fights off monsters in side-scroller beat-em-up scenes.
You can get every chapter in the Nina Aquila: Legal Eagle series at a discount via this bundle.
